Preseason magazine reviews (2006)

The reviews are split into two tables. The first table rates the magazines in various categories; the second gives an overview of each magazine's content. Additional information (other magazines and notes on the tables) follows the tables.

Other Magazines / Web Sites

The following online sites are included in the consensus this year, but not reviewed, or ranked against the others. (It's not really fair to compare free sites to the other previews.)

Notes on the Tables

In the ratings table, each magazine is rated in several different categories (e.g., prediction accuracy, information quantity). From those ratings an overall rating is computed. The features table lists key features of the content of the magazine are noted (e.g., how many teams in the national ranking, which conferences are given reduced coverage). Both tables are sorted by overall rating, with the highest-rated magazines at the top.

The "word count" for major and minor teams is an approximation. A single candidate team was selected for each category, and a rough word count was made. The counts are not exact and are rounded off, but should give an idea of the quantity of discussion text in each team's section.

For information on the meaning of the table columns, click on the hyperlinked column headings. For a detailed review of a specific magazine, click on the magazine's name. For general information on the reviews see the notes. If you can't find a magazine that you want, the review will tell you how to order from the publisher (if the publisher accepts orders).
